  • Chelsea gazumped rivals Arsenal to sign Mykhailo Mudryk for £88mil last January
  • The Ukrainian winger has not quite settled in well at Chelsea and only has a pre-season goal
  • He remains resolute and defiant that he will make it at Stamford Bridge

Mykhailo Mudryk is unbothered by the circumstances of his difficult first months at Chelsea and made an example of another star who struggled at a big club but is one of the best in the world now.

Mudryk was involved in a crazy transfer saga between two London rivals, Arsenal and Chelsea. The northerners had courted him for months, and he also displayed affection for them.

The Athletic confirmed that the Gunners were unwilling to go near their rivals' valuation of £88.5m. They walked out of negotiations and the player moved to the other side of London.

Arsenal fans continue to dislike him, due to his social media activity before he signed for Chelsea. He was booed during the London derby with a laser light pointing at his face.

Mudryk compares himself to Vinicius

The Ukrainian has struggled in his early days at Chelsea, despite a bright debut cameo against Liverpool in January, and is yet to score an official goal for the club.

On many occasions, he has issued defiant messages to the fans communicating his desire to prove himself as a warrior and repay the faith shown by the club to pay such a fee for him.

He has done that once again when asked about his performances during an exclusive interview with Bombardir UA.

“My level? Look at Vinicius in his first season at Real Madrid, and look now. Players need time to show their level after moving from one country to another country,” he said.

Some fans had quite a differing view of this, with claims that the Brazilian was 18 at that time while Mudryk was 22.

Mudryk handed number 10

Sports Brief reported that Mudryk was handed Chelsea's number 10 ahead of the new season during a series of number swaps after a mass exodus of players, coupled with several incomings.

Enzo Fernandez switched from 5 to 8, Benoit Badiashile switched from 4 to 5, and record signing Moises Caicedo, whom many fans thought 4 was retained for, has chosen number 25, which was last worn by legend Gianfranco Zola.
